Are euro lights really better than sealed beams?

I like the looks f them but how is performance?

Definitely better than the OEM sealed beams but I doubt better than a conversion kit for H4 NA-style lamps.

I have Boschs euro square lamps on my w123 because I got what I thought was a killer deal on them (I hadn't read up on Depo lights at that point), but in retrospect I probably should have just bought some H4 rounds.

So what did you find out about Depo lights?

Well if I had to do it again, I would wait for a nice set of used Bosch lamps instead. Or just go with the H4 round sealed-beam replacements. Again, however, most of the round ones on eBay are cheap off-brands. I had a set of 'real' Cibies on my old Volvo 164e and they used to blow passengers' minds the first time they were in the car at night.

The Depo lights look great when you install them new on the car... but they are just cheap knockoffs. I had Bosch on two previous cars and the difference is significant.

The lens seal on one is leaking after just six months installed. All the hardware is very cheap. The connections were mostly apart when I got the lights, and two fell off during installation.

If you get them really cheap -- and nowadays you might -- go ahead. From memory, cheap = under $150 for the set.

Thanks for the input. Did just get a NIB set of Depos for $150 for my SD...
Being installed now...

It will be a bit easier on the SD than on the w123. You have to manouvre the lights a bit to get them into the opening on the w123 and that is where I had the headaches (speednuts kept falling off, connections came loose inside twice).

They look great but so far I haven't taken a stray stone to the glass. That will be the tell.

You know that you have to reconfigure the pins and use different plugs, right?

The thing about euro-spec lights, even ones with H4s is that Europe has a different (and some feel better) beam pattern. Euro lights all have move of a kick up to the right __/ __/.

Take a look at Daniel Stern's site: Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

My new Euros

Attached is a pic of my new Euros. Car is still at Indy's, so I have not had chance to see the improvement in night visibility, but I do like the clean look.

Now have to do something with the grill...

I have the dash switch for the Euro adjustment for sale from my 84 123 body.

Also, can anyone show how to adjust my 126 Euro lights please? I have tried adjusting them by what seems logical and have not had much luck.

Don't know, but throw away headlights are, in my view, the lowest common denominator.

These may be cheaper and use your exiting plug.

The problem is any sealed beam light you can buy today, save perhaps the GE Nighthawk, is made with tooling that was worn out 15 years ago. A good ECE fixture with a good lamp will be a marked improvement.

Bosch/Hella Euros > Depos. The difference is quite noticeable in my w124s.
