1995 E300 D: temp gauge saga & what's this part?
Hi everyone,
There are two solid pipes going downwards from the thermostat housing area to a round object attached to the oil sump. The lines are hot and obviously running coolant water through them but water is the setup? And my temp gauge saga... For months now, my temp will be sitting at a normal temp (according to the cabin gauge) of about 90C and for no reason spike to 110C: if I immediately switch off the engine (whilst it is reading 110C) and start it up again, it will show a reading of 90C straight away and then after about 5 mins shoot back to 110C. So far I have; removed the main earth strap, cleaned and replaced and run a seperate earth to the gauge cluster to rule out earthing issues. Has anyone had the same thing happen to their E300D? Should I be looking at the head gasket? I hope not as I've only just had one go on another car due to an overheat and a wife that never looks at the cluster other than to read the speedometer.
