EGT Probe Install Test

Since I will be swapping the manifold and turbo from my Euro car onto my project/restoration car and I drive frequently in the mountains with heavy loads, like a roof rack full of canoes and kayaks, I though now would be a good time to install an exhaust gas temperature sensor and gauge. I got a great deal on a VDO pyrometer kit on Ebay and tonight did a practice run on the install with the federal (egr) manifold that came off the car. It was my first time tapping a thread and I wanted to get it right. Overall I think it looks great and the threads turned out perfect. Having no other experience with an egt sensor, I would love to hear what you think about the mounting location and install. As a bonus, I now have an egr manifold already tapped for the egt probe if anyone is interested in it.
Thanks,

Shane

I have one on my diesel Ram. Requirements are pre-turbo into the manifold. The Ram manifold is divided so you have to choose either front or rear cylinders. Apparently not the case on yours.

You (One) can (may) drill with the manifold installed. The engine doesn't have vacuum while running and the metal chips will be blown out. So...drill almost through, start engine, finish drilling, stop engine, tap & install would work.

When drilling use thick high temp Grease in the flutes (grooves) of the Drill Bit to catch the Chips. Renew the Grease as it becomes full of chips.

Use a Variable Speed Drill Motor and drill slowly to keep things from getting hot so as not to melt the Grease and/or let the Drill Bit cool often.

When you Tap the Hole fill the Tap flutes (grooves) with Grease so that the chips will also stick in the Grease.
