There's no ARV on 83's.

I looked at the 85 vacuum diagram and realized I don't have that. At least that's one less thing I have to diagnose! But then again it would probably be the issue if it was an 85 and it would be fixed!
My plan today is to eliminate the EGR (was blocked off with BB's) just in case there is a leak somewhere. I've got tons of Al at work to make cover. Then I was going to make sure I have no vacuum leaks because it needs done anyways. I'm going to recheck the valve's to see if they are tight and still have proper clearance. One thing I don't want to do is replace a turbo and the damn sound still be there. So I'm eliminating, cleaning, rechecking everything before I try the turbo. I truly feel by the sound it makes that there is a air leak somewhere. |

The egr system is not the cause.
Good luck, keep us posted.

That turbo sounds like the turbine or compressor blades are contacting the housing.

I'm going to get a used turbo. I just didn't want to get another and have the same howl going on. The fins on the intake side look like they have been rubbing on something. One guy said 'just drive it, if the turbo dies then you will know the cause.' My thought was what if something breaks free and goes into the engine? TOAST! So I'm going to buy a used turbo.

Found the problem after I got the turbo off. I can't believe I missed it, the darn fins are gone on the intake side! I hope those little pieces of aluminum don't hurt the engine. If anyone has a turbo let me know:
