W115/OM616 Oil Pre Filter: Rinse and reuse or replace?

This seems a hard little bugger to find much info on.

Not having an extra one, I sprayed it off with brake cleaner and resused it on the previous oil change.

Is it to be replaced each time or after X # of oil changes?

And it is not the pre-filter, but the main oil filter. Be careful not to get dirt on the inside.

Thanks.

For anyone searching in the future, which side of these Knecht filters faces up, towards the hood? I'm inclined to say Side A, but don't want to steer anyone wrong.

Side A

Side B

Consequences for being wrong?

I know only a slightly different version. The open side must be at the top, the oil streams back into the engine via the opening.

Entire assembly:

Open side

Closed side

So I think side A.

Consequences: no oil filtering or no oil delivered to vital points.
