1994 S350 white smoke

Hi, I thing I got my self a problem but I don't know how big.
I start it the car and let it run for 5 min I look and smell at the tail pipe and it looked fine no smoking, I didn't drive it out from the auction lot (not a good move for not road testing) after purchase i drove it out and that's when I knottiest the white smoke and the smell of what I thing is oil burning. OK I'm not looking at how stupid I'm for not road testing but from what I described above how match trouble I got my self in?

Do search on "rod bender" I assume that is the motor you have.

Enough that you should sell it to me and I'll put my spare engine in it.

Unfortunately, you're in significant trouble. Oil smoke on that engine is generally a sign of a bent connecting rod and an ovalized cylinder..........both very expensive to repair.

That engine is notorious for such a problem and it's generally accepted by most of us to avoid it for that specific reason.

Which is such a shame for a diesel, but it is what it is. Sorry for your challenges with the new purchase...that bites.

What was the exact reason for their awesome rod-bending ability?

John,
There are more volumes on rod benders than you can poke a stick at!! Poor motor design combined with low quality fuel. The only fix is a new motor & European diesel fuel.

or parts for it (like engine-block with rods and pistons...)

While it's probable that this car does have the bent rod syndrome I would want to do a little more research before I wrote it off. I would take the title to a Benz dealer and ask for the service history on the car and explain why I wanted it. Second, I would probably check my air filter to see whether it's good and clean and not causing oil consumption issues. I would also want to be sure that a bad turbo bearing / seal isn't causing some problems.

While there may be cars that escaped Benz engine replacements I would want to make sure that it missed out before writing off the car.

This is an update on the smoke;
First a correction (My mistake) oil burning is blue smoke instead of white smoke witch is blown gasket, never the less
I have been driving it for the last two days steet and HWY and I was not able to reproduce the smoke and I have to ask this, is their a hanky-panky going on at the auction? In other words do unscrupulous individuals doing things to the cars to appear that they burning oil and no one will bid on it?

If the car sat for awhile I could see oil leaking past the valve seals, specially if the drains are all gummed up, and oil is sitting up there,,,
