W123 Cloth Seats

Hello, I've searched quite a few of the threads but still haven't seen a good answer to this... where to find cloth seats for my 19797 W123? Does MB Classic stock them? My MB-Tex is in fine shape for its age, but certainly for the driver's seat I wouldn't mind cloth as I'm tired of sticking to the car, at least in the summer, or putting a towel there etc.

Also need to replace the cushions, but I think I'll take it to the dealer nearby to do it right. I don't have the knowhow really to do it myself with confidence if I bought a new pad. I'm also not sure if I just need a new pad or springs as well.

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

If MB Classic stocked them you would need deeeeeeep pockets. Euro cloth seats are hard to find this side of the pond. I got lucky when I had my w123 and I scored a complete black text with cloth interior. I kind of miss it actually.

Interesting. I knew they were rare, but it sounds like even more than I had realized then. Thanks for the update! I guess I'll stick to trying to get the seat cushion sorted out. Winter months ahead anyway so less sticking to the seat as well.

If you go to the dealer for the cushion or the spring box, you will pay big time. same if you use the classic center, they are very pricy.

The passenger seat will work on the drivers side, just swap the seat tracks. or if your seat back is good, you can swap the seat cushion and or spring box. the springs are the same right or left, and the W126 is also the same. 1981 - 85, not sure with the 86 - 91.

check out your favorite PNP, there are some good seats in the junk yards. I pulled one from a 83 240D pass side for my drivers side. looked like no one ever used the seat. just take pictures as you take the seat track apart, and reassemble in the reverse.

There are after market vendors that make the MB replacement seat covers etc...

check to see if they will make the cloth covers.

so-called "cloth" seats still have vinyl bolsters, so you might not benefit as much as expected from this change. i think they are butt-ugly as well, but that is beside the point.

Some have MB-tex bolsters, but not all. I just changed my interior to black cloth- I pulled it all from a euro wagon and just love it. If your seats are sagging read this thread W123 Upholstery Question and this one.

I have a set of black&white cloth seats, and the driver's seat has a black leather bolster, but the other seats are 100% cloth, I also have a red set of cloth, 100% all seats, and a blue set of cloth, and it's also 100% cloth. (the blue set is for sale by the way...)

Get some sheep skin seat covers. I bought some cheap skin wool ones, $90 for the pair, they've held up great for several years. Keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Thanks charmalu - good tips for me to look into and save some money.

Biodiesel - I've thought about the sheepskin too - I've seen a lot of people talking about them. Another item to consider.

The cards are cloth and vinyl. Ill take some pic tommorrow.

I found it cheap. I bought it for a commuter car. It has 150,000 but as you can see the fender and hood have been repainted poorly after a bump. I fixed the windows and cleaned the interior and that about it. I found a used hood, fender and rear bumper all for $75.

I could be wrong but I think those seats would technically be considered "Velour", there where some different style of the patterning over the years. What is usually refered to a "cloth" doesn't have the "furry" top side texture that your seats do. I really is amasing how well that material wears though. Germans really make some of the finest petro-chemical products!

There are quite a few types of cloth though, various weaves and multi-colored weaves.

You might be able to take your VIN and do a search for the Data Card which wmight produce the exact code for that seat material designation.
