w210 td oil cooler help
i need to replace the oilcooler on my 99 e300 which comes to the cost of about 400 dollars. so was thinking of just adding a jegs universal cooler or something from pick n pull from another car... my question is what size/rating does everyone think i need to be equiviliant/or better to the stock cooler?
was thinking this might work http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/51700/10002/-1?parentProductId=1032938

I have never read of any way to pic the size of an Oil Cooler. To a certain point the Thermostat that diverts Oil into the Oil Cooler could compensate some by opening more and remaining open longer.
I would be more concerned about the inlet and outlet size of the Oil Cooler Tubing where the Hoses attach. If they are smaller than the original it could restrict the Flow. You might post what happend to your origina Oil Cooler. It might be someone knows a repair for it. The other issue is where to mount a none stock Oil Cooler.

I was polking around in the Manual and came acrossed this. Part of the Instructions for after removal and re-installation of the Oil Cooler.
You need to bring the Oil temp up high enough to open the Engine Oil Cooler Thermostat; opens at 110 degrees C. After the Oil Cooler Circuit is filled check the Oil Level and add Oil as needed.

Oil Thermostat
Typically: OM617,601,602,603 the O.T. is inside the Oil Filter Housing...
The OM606.XXX series I don't know the Location. Someone will Chime In. Major concerns are Robustness of the Cooler,Fittings AND the Hoses! You Blow a fitting or a hose and the Engine is TOAST!
