Hey all, I went to the U-auto-pull-it yesterday and came across a 1985 300D. Fairly complete, got some nice looking wood and switches from it. But I found something very interesting in it, under the center armrest. It is a wooden box, beautifully made, that fits in the carpeted section of the center console. It looks like it was a Mercedes optional item, because the top which has a piano hinge is Zebrano wood that matches the zebrano wood on the dash. There are no markings of maufacture on it anywhere. It fits perfectly in the console. The bottom and sides are very nice looking wood and the top looks like it was a perfect match to the original wood in the car. Alas the top has many cracks in the finish, but no gouges in the wood. No veneer is missing. I will try and post pictures tomorrow. I have never seen anything like this before. Hans anyone else ever run across an item like this. It will not fit the console of my 86 300sdl. Shucks. It's just too long.
