steering "moan"

I noticed in the last couple of days a steering moan. Not noticeable at speed. More pronounced when turning at low speed or take off from stop and turning. I just replaced the filter last year and topped off with new fluid.

Where is the full indicator in the res?

Moan from the pump or from behind the glove box? The common cause of the low speed "moan" in the W123 was a bad idler arm bushing, if that's also relevant for the W126.

My bust. After hearing the moan I checked the res and it looked a little low. I noticed the lines weeping a little. I checked my service records and realized it was 2 years and almost 10,000 miles ago that I flushed and replaced filter.

Topped off res and moan is gone.

My dad's 300SD has a moan in the steering as well. It seems to be when the car is cold and/or just start out. Seems to be coming from the steering box or something on the drivers side. After it warms up it goes away. Its probably time for a new box on that car, just nearing 270k.
