Whistling Turbo

I have a 93 300D with a whistling turbo. Works fine just very noisy. Should I just try new seals or a rebuild or new? Anyone have this issue before? Thanks.

Do you have an air filter installed or a K&N? Is the trunking still attached to the turbo intake ?

Have you checked what boost it makes ?

I do have a K&N type filter installed but it has been there for years with no noise. I have not checked the boost yet. I do not have the equipment to do so, but I think it is time I do.

You may have an a leak somewhere in the intake system that is shows up when the Boost pressure rises.
With the Engine Cold spray the Areas you expect might leak with a mix of Dawn Dish Soap and Water; mixed in proportions that will act as bubble mix.
My Wife works in a Day Car and they mix 1 gallon of water to 1 cup of Dish Soap; you will have to reduce that amount.
Start the Engine and before it gets hot rev it up a bit. If you see Bubbles you have found a leak.

The other thing that can cause the noise you mention is if one of the Turbo Wheels is rubbing on the Housing. Most often it is the Compressor Wheel rubbing on the Compressor Housing due to too much End Play in the Thrust Bearing or side Play in the Shaft Bearings.

Thank you I will try the low tech/low cost soap today. Makes sense, like testing a leaky tire. Hope that is all it is. Seals are cheap, turbos aren't too cheap.
