whats wrong with my windsheild wipers

hi all
my wipers on my 97 e300d w210 have a mind of their own, when i start the car they run for about 10 seconds, then turn off they will run faster on the fastest setting but only for about 10 seconds. the fellow i bought the car from is a mech at a local chevy dealer he told me the wiper motor was to blame, seems like a bad control stick to me .has anyone else had this problem?
many thanks

kenny

Earl,
I have 1996 E300D where the wipes come on when the car is started for 10 seconds and stop not always in brake position. What did you do to solve your issue on your 1997 E300D
Thanks,
Ron R

Wiper Motor comes on 10 sec and does not park E300d 96

The problem was in the relay in the wiper motor-cleaned the contacts in the front of the motor by removing clips. Did not fix problem. Was about to buy $264 OEM motor but sprayed CRC electrionic cleaner in to the motor where the winding and brushes were. I had nothing to loose. I shook the motor around and drained the motor of the cleaner. Black cleaner came out dirty from brushes. Did this twice and let sit for 2 hours. Pluged it into harness and it parked perfectly and did not come on automatically when I turned the key on. Keep in mind this was not the correct fix as new motor was correct fix. Please don't buy a $38 motor on the Web, as this motor has all the parking stops and relays built into it that is why it cost to much. I did not take the motor housing off as I was afraid I could not get the brushes back in place, as the motor always ran fine put would not park. I also lubed worm gear and top linkage.
Hope this helps.
Ron R
