Glow plug light flickers on while driving

The 300D has done this off and on every once in a while, but it never really raised any immediate alarms. While I'm driving, every so often the glow plug light flickers for a bit. It does it very sparingly and I'm not sure if it's due to a bad connection somewhere, but I can't seem to pinpoint weather conditions when it's occurred the most.

I don't think it's an emergency by any stretch, but I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this before and if so, any insight on how to fix it?

Happened to me a few years ago in my 84SD. I replaces the glow plug relay and it solved the problem. My determination was that the relay was bad and would open/turn on randomly. Perhaps I could have investigated the bad relay first to see if I could fix it.

I believe I have a thread on my experience if you want to search my name.

Okay, I searched but my thread was more about my alternator being bad than the glow relay being bad although I did mention it.

I had forgotten that I hypothesized that my GP relay coming on randomly took out my alternator. I also found other people with the same problem (GP light flickers).

I would suggest you either replace the GP relay or troubleshoot the relay. One thing to do would be start the car, THEN disconnect the power lead to the relay and see if the flickering persists. If so then the issue is probably not GP relay related.

I may just change it out. Chances are it's probably the relay due to its age. Is it easy to do?

yeah, just disconnect the battery first, as the hot lead feeding the relay is hot ALL the time. two sockets to unplug, one wire to unbolt, and two mounting screws to remove.

Glow plug relay is getting wonky on you. I (and several others) have had the exact same issue, and a new relay solved the problem
