Smile Roof, Drip Moulding seal W210

Does the roof drip moulding have a gasket between it and the vehicle roof ??? Or is something else used to seal it.
Thanks, lgriffi

I too am interested in proper removal of these strips. Did this reply for a bump so that others may input. Perhaps moving to bodywork catagory would help.

If we are talking the black trim strip the manual says its not reusable but I pulled one off a parts car and did reinstall it on my TD. I cleaned the bare metal then ran electrical tape on the metal, half on either side. I then ran a small beed of black RTV in the crack of the trim and installed it. Sounds hokey but its been a couple years and its still fine and looks no different than the trim on the other side.

We're talking 210 chassis. Those strips go from the rear window along the roof and down the A pillar to the hood - one piece. Cost is about $150 each plus ten clips are needed at about $2.50 each. Apparently i comes color coded to your exterior color.

A big thank you to those that replied. Dealer price on the mouldings is $200.00 each. I like the idea using black silcone.

That's MSRP. $150 is the wholesale number that lots of dealers will sell to you at. When/if you do the job, take some photos and let us know how to do it. Keep in mind you need to have your color code the add to the part number.

I'd like to know the number on the clips. Seems previous owner had it off once for some cosmetic work on the roof and it is loose in one spot. I figured it was reusable... Would also like to see what it looks like and therefore figure out my approach - Which is NOT $200 new piece.

Here, Here, Rambow. I would like to know if they serve a purpose other than just covering the joint where the roof panel meets the door rails, and how it is fastened. That kind of price for a plastic strip with rubber backing is ridiculous.

I'm beginning to think a salvage yard with a little exploring on removal technique, and how to save the clips and gasketing material will be appropriate.

I am a big fan of an adhesive called, "GOOP". I believe that it would do a great job of fastening these strips and gaskets.

Got to find a junked E to play with.

Part numbers available on the EPC. Can't remember right now if the parts were located in the "Roof" section or in "Lining and Covering," but it's all there and free for US addresses.

On cheaper fixes, chances of finding good strips in your color in a junkyard seem awfully slim. And I'm not sure how easy it would be to get 15 year old strips off without damage. If you are going through those hoops, you will probably be better off trying to save the ones you have and get them redone.
