Repairing the wiper switch
W123 1984 300D
Has anyone repaired a broken wire in the stalk for the wiper? How did you get it fully apart so the wire could be repaired? Here is my situation. My wipers were not working right. I forget the details, but I think I could not get them to turn off. Even in the off position, it acted like it was in position 1 but it came on or off whenever it wanted to. Cleaning the contacts in the switch did not correct the problem. I have diagnosed the problem to the black wire inside the stalk. I have a good connection from the plug to the base of the stalk, but not from the base of the stalk to the end where the switch contacts are located. So I am trying to take the wiper switch apart that is at the end of the stalk. I have it almost completely apart. There are 2 halves to the actual switch. Mine are white plastic. I have them just barely apart, and the 2 halves are no longer locked in place, but I do not want to tug too hard on them to continue separating them. I think that I am pulling on the wires in the stalk, but I am not sure. Before I go to far and break something else in it.... Has anyone repaired a broken wire in the stalk for the wiper? How did you get it fully apart so the wire could be repaired?
