W124 602 runaway engine
I am starting a new thread with the title of "runaway engine" hoping someone can shed more light.
It started off as a pretty simple thing- replacing the O ring at the stop engine lever shaft. It ended as a runaway engine. The link below gives details and pictures: 602 diesel leak @IP "Stop engine" lever- picture attached Thanks!

For future reference, you should have cut the fuel line or jammed something over or into the air intake. May not be any damage. Won't know until you fire it up again. Be prepared when you do
![]() I'm not familiar with the shut off mechanisms on that IP but I'm guessing you disconnected the mechanism from the rack.

Roy came over, did his magic with setting the IP rack back in position and the "stop lever" hooked up again- in the correct position! Engine fired up. The only damage was a broken shut off valve when I had come down hard on it to stop the engine. Waiting for the ordered part. Thanks Roy and Pete- you guys are great!! Maybe the car will run better now, since I got the "Italian tuneup" ![]()
