Leads on a W123 Euro trailer hitch?

All,

'Going through a divorce and losing my pickup, so I'm contemplating putting a hitch on my '84 300DT to pull a small trailer (needed to haul gas and diesel, other small loads.)

Does anyone know where I might find a hitch for the beast?

Thanks much in advance!

I'm not sure if the mods will let me post a link....

But if you go to curtmfg dot com and use the drop down menus, you will see a hitch sort of like the one you picture.

I have the same style (mine is UHaul brand) on one of my w123s and it seems to work fine. It bolts into the spare tire well and the bumper. I want to buy a 3-bike mount for it soon since my kids are all about bikes now.

It looks pretty pricey, and then you have to get the ball separately, but it should do the trick.

You might find one like that on a European EBay site but the US equivalents seem to work just fine.

Based on my experience with an '84 Euro 300TD -
is your car a US or Euro model? If Euro, you will need the Euro hitch, as the aftermarket hitches sold for the US W123s probably won't work. Those US hitches are designed to attach to the US 5-mph bumper shocks or their mounting studs.

If your car IS a US model, the Euro bumper won't work without also changing to a Euro rear bumper, as some of the Euro hitch reinforcing braces need to go inside the pockets currently occupied by your US bumper-shocks.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks all for the input on this, and sorry for the late response (been having personal issues as of late!)

The mention of Uhaul by Zeke prompted me to do a search of their site and I came up with a hitch that fits the W123 (not exactly what I wanted, but what the hell!) It seems that they are discontinuing hitches for the W123, but have a few in stock and are blowing them out for the "red tag" price of $114, with shipping. I purchased one of those and will mount it today.

Fast and dirty!

Thanks again for all your help guys!
