Can W210 W.P. be used on OM602 + OM603 ?

Liken to the Discovery that the OM606 Viscous Fan Clutch (less expensive)
AND 11 Blade plastic fan can be used on the OM602+603 s.

What started me on this "Quixoten" quest was the inherent engineering weakness of the OM60X.XXX engines in the Cooling department.

The FSM calls by VIN for the OM602.962 to be equipped with an H2O pump
with a 69mm diameter Impeller.
H20 pump #602 200 02 20 installed on WP Housing # 603 201 03 01.

When I use the "Search" function on the FSM and plug in #605 200 08 20
(A 72mm Impeller equipped W.P. from the OM606.962 engines /Housing #
605 201 01 01).
The FSM says that pump is applicable to the OM602.962 ALSO.

My convoluted reasoning is that the Larger Impeller will move more H2O.

(Errrk, Second question would be do you have to have the 605 #erd Housing
as well?)

So,You say why bother for 3mm s more impeller Diameter?

My guess would be yes, you'd need the matching housing -- impellers usually fit their housing closely or coolant would "leak backwards."

On a related subject, none of my 60x engines ever had cooling problems; what is this "engineering weakness" of which you write?

Cooling ?

Jeremy,

I've got a '90 W124.
'Has enough Piping (Hard and Rubber)used in the "Cooling System" to be able to
offload crude from tankers 20 miles offshore,If I wanted to.

1.Mechanical Water Pump
2.AND an Auxiliary Electric WP,THIS is the Smoking Gun.
3.Aluminum Tube type Heat Transfer device for the Windshield Washer setup.
4.A Heat Exchanger for warming the Diesel Fuel prior to use.
5.Some kind of Side-to-Side Piped Air Bleed system tied into the Cooling System.
6.A THREE STAGE thermostat!
7.A mechanical "Puller" viscous engine driven cooling fan.
8.Two Electric "Pusher" Auxiliary Fans (In front of the Condenser/Radiator)
9.A Thermostatically Controlled Oil Cooler System. [Cooling is Cooling]
10.The Coup De Gras is the Thermostatically Controlled Louvers set into
the Side Panels of the engine compartment, that open when too much HEAT
is in the E.C.

Empirically,it's almost impossible to separate fact from fancy when detailing
all the cooling system urban legends that abound.
We do know:
Alloy Heads on Ferrous Blocks don't appreciate too much heat.
If y'all don't take Excellent care of your cooling, you will regret it.

Nice list -- never seen all of them listed together before. My '95 has all of that stuff, I think, plus a heat exchanger in the oil pan with metal coolant lines running to it (an oil cooler, supposedly, but it also functions as an oil warmer, since the coolant heats up long before the oil does.

My former '87 had most of that stuff except for the washer heater. I replaced the aux coolant pump and bypassed the fuel heater because it leaked (not needed in my part of California anyway).

Not sure what your #5 air bleed system is, can you explain?

Jeremy

Whew

Underneath the Coolant Recovery Tank is an Itty Bitty short piece of hose
that connects the 3 way Pipe to the bottom of the tank.

3 way pipe:
1.One to the backside of the Water Pump Housing
2.One to the "Under the Chassis Almost" coolant pipe that runs under the engine
and reconnects with the system near the W.W. Tank Mess.
3.One to the Coolant recovery tank.
ONLY the pipe at that point has what looks like a Brake line enter it and Stick
up into the coolant recovery tank.
You can see/trace the other end of the "Brake Line" to a short plastico
connection back into the Coolant System near the Brake Booster.

A Factory Construct, not some "In the Field" WM

To answer own original inquiry

parts Maven says '92 OM602.962 I have already has the 72mm 605 200 08 20
H2O pump installed from the factory.

BUT keep in mind this is a 2006 MB reman of the 1992 engine.

YMMV
