Anyone Ever Had a 602 Engine Rebuilt?
Noticed a recent post by someone looking at a 91 300D with an engine rebuilt at 250,000 miles. Made me curious....who out there has had the need to get a 602 rebuilt? For what reason and what was the mileage? One of mine has 236k on it....would hope to get to 400k before I'd need to think about a rebuild.

Not rebuilt
I've got one that spun #3 rod bearing.
(The Genius who replaced 1,2,4,5 left #3 out.Too hard to access, I guess ?) But, that was before I owned it. ('Culprit was the Oil Pump drive sprocket bolt...It backed out of the O.P.) I put a Mercedes "Crate" '92 reman in it. (Had 10K miles on it when it hit a Cow outside Austin.) 1.Don't overheat that alloy head.(Inherent is MAYBE r+r cooling sys parts.) 1a.Get an accurate additional Temp indicator.(Oil Temp + Pyrometer won't hurt) 1b.Get a good look at the inside of the metal pipes that make up the cooling system...Their condition AND the presence or absence of CORROSION will "Tell All" on the Cooling System. 2.Replace the V.P. if there's ANY question about it OR the Timer's "Ramps". 3.Check the Timing Chain Wear about every 80K. 4.I like Red Line (Almost)everywhere lube is called for.
