You can test the aux fan operation with key in pos #2 by holding both "auto" buttons for 10 seconds. Fans will engage full speed until you hit a button or turn the key off.

OK, here's a quick video I just shot of my car's bad clutch. Hope it helps.

Evan - 95c would be a low temp for the clutch to begin to engage, right?. Until that point I've always been able to stop my fan the same as you did and my daughter (12y/o at the time) even gave it a try once.

At 5 degrees hotter I wouldn't dream of doing that; the sound tells you its locked up and only an idiot would try.

Does your clutch stay the same when it hits +100C and not lock up?

Mine locked up last week and is locked up as soon as the engine is started.

I believe a viscous coupling is progressive and I would expect a little more pull at this temperature.

If you notice the value on the computer, the engine temp is really 221*F or 105*C according to the sensor so the gauge is lagging a little.

Awesome on the Unimog vs Stump. Oh and the video posted was perfect, thanks so very much. I could easily stop the main fan by hand with two fingers. Also, I could turn the car off, walk around and WAIT for it to stop.

OOOPS guess I got to get it to full temp to fully test that also. I'm not sure mine has got that hot to lock up then. I maxed out at maybe 214 degree - via my scan gauge or whatever I've got hooked up all the time.

Cool trick on the dual aux fan testTMallison. I think it will be 106 tomorrow that could be a test.

Guess I'll try the changing of the oil in it and see how that goes.

Thanks

I would agree with this. My fan clutch was bad as it was locked most of the time, cooling the engine way too much. On the video at 90+ on the dash gauge, there is not really any need for the clutch to kick in.
I took mine off last year because it was locking way too early and never dissengage, and the gauge is reading the same as yours without the fan unit since. Nothing changed. I think your fan is actually working very well.
