Gen 2 kits started
I took my work truck to the laser cutter yesterday and picked up all the parts for the Gen 2 bracket kits:

Gen 2 bracket testing
I got the bracket and compressor mounted on my spare engine:

This is exciting! It looks like the second generation is simpler than the first, which I like. I was really dreading having to fabricate a bracket. I am glad you are doing the work for me. I hope to get one once I'm caught up on my finances.

CAD parts picked up today
I picked up the parts from plating today:

Everyone that has purchased a kit please read!
Although the testing of the Gen 1 bracket on my SD has been successful and without issues, the Gen 2 bracket has had some issues that I need those of you that have one to be aware of. A while back, I noticed some rattling from the engine bay and found a broken bolt on the top mounting tab of the compressor. I replaced it, and a few weeks later, the nut was gone. Just yesterday I was showing someone the bracket, and I noticed that the nut on the long bolt (12mm) was gone. I mistakenly have been using/providing nylon locking nuts with the kit, but have found that they are backing out and/or breaking (most likely because of heat). I am going to supply all metal lock nuts with the kits from now on. If you have a kit and have not installed it yet, I suggest you (1) PM me your address and I will send you replacements, or (2) go to your local fastener supplier and purchase them. For the Gen 1 kit you will need 4- 3/8 24 all metal lock nuts, and the Gen 2 takes 8- 3/8 all metal lock nuts, and one M12 lock nut. Actually, the only place the Gen 2 really needs them is on the long bolt (M12), and the two compressor to plate bolts. If you would like me to send you the nuts, please send me a private message with your address and which bracket you have, and I would be happy to send them. If you choose to just buy them, I am ok with that as well. Even though you may not have the nut problems I have been having, it is a good idea to replace them anyway. Is there a provision to secure the oil cooler lines that were secured on the original AC bracket? |

I printed the list and used in the yard as a guide. It would be nice if there was a way to do some cursory tests on a compressor in the yard. Sanden is primarily an aftermarket supplier of compressors. As such, they are not generally associated with a particular manufacturer. That is not to say that they were not used in that application, as they were.
This may be helpful in understanding the Sanden nomenclature http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1365008695 R-12 Sanden A/C compressors use a defined numbering system and the R12 Sanden A/C compressors use "SD" to signify the Sanden name. Then the units have a 3 digit code such as 709 for the R-12 Sanden A/C compressors. The Sanden compressors that are designated for the R-134 refrigerant use a different code. For example, SD7H15HD can be broken down into its parts. The SD stands for Sanden; the 7 is the number of cylinders in the compressor; H stands for the port location (H if it is on the head and B if it is on the block) the 15 is the displacement in cubic centimeters. The HD stands for heavy duty and there can also be SHD for sealed heavy duty clutch. You can pretty much build your own model number based on what you need for your application. Now for those that are interested in junk yard diving for their compressor, here is a list of places to start... EDIT: Removed redundant list of possible vehicles to search for, because Charlie responded while I was typing :) You might be able to take this list to a local parts house and see what comes up. Open the box, and look at the Sanden part number to verify if you've got what you need. |
