I'd change the ip.

There was another thread like this I remember. I can't find it but the person got a white 1987 td. Did everything before replacing ip and it ended up being that if I recall. I can't remember the op name.

You Did check for exhaust restrictions right? And brakes aren't sticking bad? Timing right? Could the motor be weak? Are all the injectors firing good? worst case is you'll know you have two good ips.

Ok. The saga continues.

I've replaced the IP with a known working IP/ALDA and the car HAS THE SAME PERFORMANCE.

So - clearly not the IP.

Hummm... thinking I'll pull the ALDA off the new IP and see if performance is the same. Also - the car has a bad nailing issue at idle - maybe the injectors need to be cleaned?

Getting to the end of my ideas on what could be the issue.

Ok - here's a thought. While I was replacing the Injection Pump - I noticed that someone had replaced the throttle linkage that connects to the IP itself with one of the older metal socket ones (vs. the plastic ends that crack and break over time).

This linkage that connects to the IP pump arm is adjustable from the looks of it. I'm wondering if the rod length is not the correct length to fully engage the IP pump at WOT.

I'm going to check this tomorrow when I have time...

I have continued to repair items on the car ('92 300D) that needed to be done and each time I do these items I'm reminded about the fact that I've never resolved this issue (poor performance).

While installing new injectors I had the over-the-top of the engine air intake pipe off and was impressed with the amount of air coming up the pipe from the turbo. Removed the air intake to the turbo and watched it operate and it appears to be spinning up very well while the wastegate is closed. I did the pressure wastegate swap a few months ago.

I've cleaned out the ALDA vacuum pieces/parts and did a boost pressure reading while driving. Readings show 12-15 PSI under WOT (if memory is correct).

At this point I'm thinking it has to be either lack of fuel delivery, a constricted exhaust or a poorly timed Injection Pump (IP).

The new injectors are nailing pretty bad - so I'm going to check my IP timing first. After I complete this I'm going to pull the ALDA off the newly installed IP (had the old ALDA off the other IP with no change). The IP/ALDA from the donor car performed fine so I'm betting I'm not going to see any change.

Considering I've tried putting a fuel tank in the engine bay and the performance didn't change - I'm betting the issue must be constricted exhaust or poorly timed IP.

This could be true. I have a different year and Model but when I first got My Car (I never test drove it and the Seller Drove it to My House for me) it was scary slow till it got moving.
It turned out My Linkages was extremely sloppy and not moving the Throttle Lever enough.
I shortened the length on 2 of the Linkages and that fixed it.

Later while looking in the Manual I found out the Linkages have specific lengths the must be adjusted to.
On the adjustable Linkages with the Ball and Socket you measure from the approximate Center of where the Ball Seats in the Rod to the approximate center of the other Ball Seat.
