yeah it appears that the non-turbo radiators, except for weird off brands, are suddenly out of stock everywhere.
so, updated question: will a radiator designed for a turbo model fit on a non-turbo model? i thought i read somewhere that one of the hoses ended up being in a different position

ok nevermind, i found my answer. there is a hose that goes to an expansion tank that i'll need, and a different fan shroud. grumble.

You need a new radiator anyway so get a cheaper and easier to find turbo radiator, buy some hose to reach the reservoir and source a shroud from the pick-n-pull. You might even find a radiator at the pick-n-pull. Bring a hand pump and bicycle inner tube to test it.
[edit] If your car doesn't have a separate reservoir, cap the fitting on the turbo radiator. Sixto 87 300D |

Doh! I have to take my foot out of my mouth. The 77-81 radiator has a pressure cap, the 82-85 radiator has the cap on the reservoir. Still, reservoirs abound at the PnP.
Since your original radiator has brass end tanks or whatever end tanks of radiators with metal end tanks are made of, can't you take it to a radiator shop to be repaired or recored? Sixto 87 300D |

the radiator in there now, a behr, has a plastic top. the plastic top is cracked beyond repair.

Plastic and it has a radiator cap on it? EPC shows only one part number, no succession. I doubt MB would have switched from metal to plastic end tanks without rolling the part number. Phil is much more capable than the FastLane website so call to see what he can do for you. I still think updating to a turbo radiator and separate reservoir is the economical way to go.

i'll see if i can find the part # on the radiator in there now. i dont know why i didnt think of that. i guess it could be 30 years old, but i would have to think its been replaced at least once in the car's lifetime
