I found the pic of the CAT VW TDI filter kit. It is made to fit a VW TDI so I am not sure what type of Bracket would need to be made.

I am guessing the real CAT Filter Base/Mount is easier to make a bracket for.

Also 1"x14 threads per inch is more like a Hydraulic Filter Base/Mount threads than a Fuel Filter thread. Meaning you are more likely to find a Mount searching Hydraulic Mounts.

This picture ^^ is the exact head I have on my TDI. But unfortunately, the company no longer sells them.

Nicktane Diesel
Nicktane is probably the only outfit that makes CAT filter kits for the TDI now. He also has his own proprietary 1 micron filters and has 3 micron fuel/water separator Donaldson filters with add on clear bowl. Which I note the CAT 1R-0750 is not a true fuel/water separator.

For the 617/616 engines, Another option for a filter head I've looked at before is to modify a WIX 24770/ NAPA 4770 head to use in place of the stock Mercedes filter head.

NAPA AUTO PARTS | PART DETAILS

This 1-14 threaded head will enable for you to use the 2 micron CAT filter or the 3 micron Donaldson P553203 filter.

1. adapter plate (as you need move a bit housing itself due the CAT filter depth)
4 hole plate dimensions out 65mm x 40mm, holes center 40mm (a),I moved mine 25mm (b) so those holes has to be threaded for existing screws)

2. cat adapter, outside T1"x14 to fit CAt and inner M14x 1.5 mm (metric one)
25mm deep.

Thanks dudes....I'm going to have a machinist look at this and give me a price on making some. If anyone here would want one I can have a bunch of copies made. PM me if interested. Thank you DeliveryValve for posting the info, Nicktane looks interesting!

They sell 1-14" threaded Rod so a Machinist is not needed to do the outside threads. It gets Drilled down the center and tap it for the Filter Bolt; cut to length and the ends faced off.

Would anyone be interested in a kit to do this? I'm about to do it myself, but the shortest 1"-14 threaded rod I could find is 1 foot, which could probably make 15 adapters.

~$10-15 each depending on how long it takes me to make them.

I'm going to ask the machinist doing my head if he's able / interested and we'll see what his price is. I was thinking of having him make a few dozen copies as I know people will want them, in my swfl club I can think of about 5 cars that would want them

I don't know what a "swfl club" but in the last 30 days or so this has been the most interest anyone has shown in the CAT Filter Mod.

In the more than several years since I started this Thread there there has been only 3 people that contacted Me for parts on this Mod.

Without putting some sort complete Kit someplace like eBay I think the numbers of people interested is going to be low.

One of our Members made and adjustable Fuel Pressure Relief/Over Flow Valve for the Fuel Injection Pump (a great and useful idea) and despite the interest in that subject from what I have read only a few People wanted one.

But, best wishes on your project.

I want the CAT filter on my car, I'm going to try and make an adapter, anyone have pics of what about it should look like? I'm guessing it's basically just going to go where the oem filter would spin on, and have a larger thread for the CAT filter to spin on, no?

Yep. basically a thread adapter. I'll have a couple for sale as soon as my tap comes in.

The Stock Filter Bolt threads into the Adapter. There is some pics colser to the front of the thread.
It goes where the OEM Filter goes but because the Filter is longer it needs the Filter Housing needs to be moved back about 1/2-3/4ths of an inch because on the 300Ds there is a Casting web below the Filter.
I also had to bend the Bracket that holds the Glow plug Wires down a little.

Depending on how much you need to move the Stock Filter Housing it can stress the Plastic Lines. I replaced My Filter Lines with Rubber Hose.

For the center adapter bolt I used McMaster 92865A520.

I also put flats on the bottom of the bolt so I could remove it using a Crescent wrench and a slot in the top so I could remove it from a filter if it came off with the filter.
