It seems that Smile123 has been listening to old Beatles songs; he wants to be a "Paperback Writer"! Pure fiction.

And the other responders? P.T. Barnum's got you covered.

Given his other posts on this forum, I doubt it's a joke. Truth can be stranger than fiction.

Still haven't gone to the junk yard to talk to them yet because I only have 1/4 tank of diesel left in the car. The line of waiting to get gas is more than 2 hours. No one wants to let me squeeze in to get "diesel"
One of the members saw the engine pictures I posted and asked me if it is a new engine? Now I know it's a 617 engine thanks to you all for pointing out it's really no other people's fault but me. I should not assume things will go smoothly without knowing what I am getting into. The last few days I started to read about "engine". Can anyone tell by just looking at the pictures what year that engine should be? 85, 84, 83, 82........75..................

Park away from the station and walk to the diesel pump with a 5 gallon can (or two)!!!

No one should have a problem with that.....you're not delaying "them" if you're pumping diesel (from a separate pump)........

I wonder if they dropped an older natural aspired engine in to add insult to injury? Do you have a turbocharger on that replacement engine? If so there may be a pretty easy solution to your low top end speed. Simply cleaning out the boost lines and fittings could do it.

I too was interested in how they got around the speedometer issue. Perhapos the senders are interchangable between transmissions? Maybe a station wagon transmission?

By the way the reason the members assume your transmission was replaced as well. The five cylinder engine will not bolt up properly to the six cylinder transmission. To do so is well beyond any skill levels the people you have been using would have. Plus it is expensive and problamatic to do.

So sad to hear this tale....

Ive seen such things done over the years, some very well done, others not so well....

Yup--you got the wrong engine,--but at the very least its running. Now you can try and get recompense from those monkeys who did the job but I feel you'll get nowhere....
--Those type scumbags are worldwide--we got our fair share here too!

At least its the right MAKE engine!

The best way forward for you first would be find a local forum member who is willing to look over the installation and at least check its safe and been done to a reasonable standard.

Looking at the News over the last few days however, I think that wrong engines in cars is going to be the last thing guys are currently worrying about in your locale....
--I hope you get it sorted one way or another though....

Although 'wrong' for your car, the old OM.617 is a darned good engine....
