88 190E Shifter Illumination???
Is the shifter plate that shows the trans. position suppose to be back lit when the head lights are on? I have no lights at all down there and would think there should be, but this is a new car to me and am not familiar. What is the light source if it is back lit and where are the bulbs or optics? Thanks

It is supposed to be illuminated when the park/head lights are on. There is a bulb accessible when you remove the wood panel. It's on the front left corner of the black shift gate assembly, IIRC.

Yup. I bet it's a 1.2w lamp.
