Smile New Purchase

Kirk and I ran down to Indy on a 12 hour run (from Grand Rapids, MI) and purchased a 1980, 240D (manual) from Darrin from our own forum. Got home at 6:00 a.m. with the newest of the fleet.

I'm going to try the simplicity of the 240D as my new car.

Don

Don,
You better hurry up and add that little cub to your signature listing, before Mama bear gets worried about her young!

Profile updated....thanks for the reminder.

Darrin - Do you recall when the last oil change was and fuel filters by any chance? Did the mail arrive today?

Don

I was wondering who was going to end up with that car. If it had been close enough to me I'd have gone to look at it and probably taken it - a rust-free W123 is a rare and beautiful creature!

Maintenance

Hi Don,

The oil was last changed about 3,000 miles ago. The fuel filters about 2,000 miles ago. The brake pads and motor mounts are new. The glow plugs are also new, except for No. 3 (the hardest one to get to.) The passengers side rear axle boot is a replacement boot. The original boot was leaking, so I purchased a repair kit, which is essentially putting a new boot over the old one. The proper fix is to replace the axle. You might want to keep an eye on that.

I think that covers it.

Darrin:

Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye on the axle. I've neglected to tell you thanks for the car and what I consider a neat deal. I needed that right now and appreciate it. I'm enjoying it and will be tweeking it as time goes on. The first 450 miles have been great. I'm assuming you got your mail....
Thanks again,

Don

Ken:

The 123 was in great shape. We crawled under it with a flashlight in the dark, etc. Thats what was so amazing about a 22 year old car. There isn't a spot of rust or rot on the thing. So glad a friend pointed that classified ad out to me.

Joe:

Regarding a comparison to yours, it looks good with a repaint and good gloss. Alloys going on it soon but I love the color. You can see the car under the classifieds. Look under "Darrin" for the thread starter. As for getting used to the lack of power.....remember that my daughters received your car and not me. I was still stuck with the Volvo which any of us could outrun on foot. This 240D is about exactly inbetween my Volvo and your 300D-T in terms of acceleration. So its a step up for me and not down in speed.
Thanks for keeping in touch

Don
