300SDL determineing starting issue

Hello All,
I have been combing the post to see if I could find a definitive answer to my problem but I am still stuck between 2 possible options.
Here is my issue:
On occasion the car will not start
Key turns to 1st position and light come on
Turn key to start and no response
I have seen recommendations for just the ignition switch, just replace the tumbler, and replace both.
Battery new. Starter is a year old.
There has been times where I turned the car off and put the car in drive and then back to park and the car would start.....Not sure how or if there is a connection. Your time and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
