fix your blower! foggy windows are dangerous!

I just got a ticket...

I was in a hurry this morning and did not wait for my blower to function... wiped down the front window and headed daughter to school...

coming down the hill there is a stop light at the bottom, and as I got close, the light started changing.

I decided there was room to make it, and went through just as the light turned red...
right passed the police officer that DID stop for the light...

I think I'd have seen the cop if my windows were properly defogged.

So were the windows fogged because..

a) you had the climate control in auto mode and it doesnt output heat until engine temp raises to a certain temp

or
b) something was bad on your blower?

randomly, my blower will fail to function...
this morning, it would not come on at all, then it started on/off/on/off/on/off... very annoying. it sounded like a relay was intermittent...

ahhhhhh that makes more sense

my 201 had something similar happen. It all of a sudden just stopped blowing! I tore everything in the engine compartment related to the blower out and tested it. Seemed OK to me. I applied power direct to blower, spun up fine.. Then i found out that my evaporator was completely covered with muck. I cleaned it off and holy crap is the air flow nice.

Somebody please tell me how to clean the muck out of the evaporator on w124 body style.

...if I use spray fluids does the muck have drainage out some tubing or hole on the bottom... or do I have to apply suction to vac it out?

There is a condensate drain in the case.

since the evaporator is so accessible, I'd pull the blower and clean the coil from above with a brush and vacuum...

Hmm I think the 124 is a bit different than the 201. The 201's evaporator was right in front of the blower. So I took out the wiper, the blower and there it was. I hit it was some air from the compressor, came out nice and clean, no damage.

I think it's the same as the 124, the evaporator should be underneath the blower, underneath the wiper.

nope.
because I ran into steering problems, and started working on that.
the car wanders too much, and there is a good 15° play in the steering wheel center position with no reaction from the wheels... leaving the car to wander too much on straight roads...
My 93D parts car has tight steering box, so I'm swapping it in. I did not get done tonight, I'll pick up tomorrow...

Not sure what car you used, but in the W123 climate control III there is a function to stop blower motor function when the coolant is below a certain temperature.

Sometimes, when I use the AC and the cabin temp has reached the desired temp, the blower stops blowing completely, but only for a moment. Afterwards it would continue blowing again, at minimum or second level speed.

So what is the prescribed repair? Ive always thought that a fail to start intermittently was a sign of a bad connection in the ACC.

Bad blower or brushes shows itself as a warping or popped fuse on IIRC #8. Usually warped if it is just getting bad and is intermittent, obviously, because of the elevated current draw.
