My understanding is, 79 240`s and older had the 21 gal tank. 1980 - 83 have the 17 gal tank.

I replaced and up graded the tank to a 21 gal tank from a 85 300D, in a 82 240 and it had the plastic tank, replaced the one in my 80, and it had a metal tank.
