If you have been following my 2.47:1 diff swap, then you know the axle length appears to be a major issue. I need a measurement on the axles from a W116 300SD and the 'slip-in' style axles from a Gen I W126.

The axles that will solve the length difference you are facing are from V8 W116s, i.e., 450 SE/L.

Compare the P/N for those with the P/N for the W126 axles which you have.

Right and left are different lengths, correct????

I found some data on A1-Cabron Axles that show a 1978 450SEL having a 26-1/16" right axle and a 24-13/16" left axle.

I think this is really just the difference between the 185mm and 210mm differential...
