The fellow doing the welding is a real artisan with metal, so I am pretty certain it will be fine, though we have not run the motor yet with it on. Thanks for the thought!

I talked to Michael at the autocross on Sunday. He has the accelerator pedal hooked up now, and the engine and tranny mounts finished. Next step is sorting the driveshaft. I'll prolly be heading down there later this week with some parts and to have a looksee.

I went over today for a fitment into the truck. The mercedes steering column is in place complete with its crush zone. The bracket that bolts to the bottom of the dash bolted into the studebaker using existing holes!
The brake and clutch levers will need to be bent to the right to have the correct relationship to the gas pedal and the gas pedal needs moved toward the radiator 1". The shifter will have the shift lever lengthened 6" and the shift levers under the floor lengthened 3" to bring the shifter up where it needs to be and retain the shifting pattern size it now has. The driveshaft will use the front half of the Wagon ds and the rear half will be modified to attach to the ford 9" diff. He has the tranny support bolted in with custom brackets. It looks like it grew there. We'll have to raise the engine about a half inch to give more clearance to the Sanden compressor. It is getting close to being drivable....sortof.

I received a lovely Arvin heater yesterday with art deco lines. It has a horseshoe shaped core and a fan with three speeds and three little doors to open and close for controlling the heat. It looks like I'll need a separate valve to control the hot water flow though. It appears the CE was set up with a cable control for the hot water so I'll have to look through the parts I got from Bob and see if one is in there.

Named after that guy who got off an airplane in 1938 waving a piece of paper in his hand.
Yes?

I just talked to Michael and he reports the car is ready to set on the wheels. Driveshaft is in with the carrier bearing, the shifter is modified and installed in the floor, the pedals are positioned correctly etc. Next is to install the dash, AC and heater!
I am going down tomorrow to survey the progress!

Progress pics
That's Steve on the left and Michael on the right. The truck is on its wheels and looks pretty decent. It may be a little high in front so we'll have to see. The pedals had to be bent to the right to get close enough to the accel pedal. The accel pedal is binding now so will require some adjustment, possible moving the floor pivot closer to the lever. The shifter looks and feels perfect along with the wheel. The driveshaft is attached to the ford diff. A corvair ujoint base was welded directly onto the Mercedes DS. The Mercedes fuel tank is installed and it looks as if we may be able to graft the filler neck from the studie tank right onto it the intake for the tank being in such a similar location. Next is attaching the front clip and radiator. I think I'm gonna go with a smooth rf fender instead of installing the too high spare there.
Its getting close to being drivable again. Sorry for the blurry pics. I guess my automatic focus is fouled up.
