'99 E300 Glow Plug(s) bad - How hard could that be? #%^@#!!

Ok, GP light came on this spring, but hey in case you forgot to was not a cool summer. After a few months it finally quit comming on - maybe because it was always 100 degrees... Why would it not come on anymore?

Well alas Fall is here and some frost. Not exactly an easy start and the clouds of smoke were "less than desirable". Had to put your foot in it a little to keep it running and if you were foolish enough to put in reverse right away - it would die.

So with guidance here and parts from Peachtree I tore into it last night. No matter what I tried I could not for the life of me get that one out. Finally rounded it off - oh not the GP's - I'm talking about that damn screw from underneath that goes into the EGR and backet. Oh I fixed it now - I think the dealer rounded it out a tad and when I did the fuel lines etc last year I must have barely got it back home. So a new stainless bolt and washer are in its place.

GP's were EASY. Must say 27 NM is nothing for torque. #5 was squeaky and I did the forward back and some penetrating oil, but was out in under 5 minutes. The other 5 - instantly came out with NO issues. Maybe #5 was the dead GP. Reamed them all and back in without issues.

With the exception of the aforementioned "damn EGR bolt" - I really could of had this done in less than 2 hours easy. I had been dreading this forever, now I think I will take them out every year or two and put anti-seize on them again. GP's themselves were truly easy. Did I mention that I did this with it stone cold
