w123 seat height adjustor

This is making me feel stupid. I have always felt that the front seats sit right on the floor and I have almost no support on the front of my legs. The guy that I bought it from was very tall so perhaps they have been set to the lowest position.

I read the manual and found the seat height adjuster but can't make either side work. The instructions say to raise the seat slide it forward and to lower side it back. I can raise the D handle as far as I it goes and nothing happens. I have tried adjusting it while out of the car still nothing.

I don't think that anything is particularly jambed as every thing else in the interior works fine.

I have performed a couple of searches with little yield.
What is the trick?

These things are notorious for getting gunked and jamed up. Mine corroded!

I ultimately had to get my kid to sit in the seat and pull up on the d handle while I pushed the seat with my legs from behind to get it to break free. I then pulled the whole seat out and cleaned and lubricated the mechanism.

Stand outside, release the handle and have someone in the back seat pushing on the the front seat.

That's the best method. Mine was sticky. You need to sometimes get it out of the car and lube it up.

Good luck,

Packman

Thats good news thanks. It moves forward and up or back and down, whereas the D ring at the front just goes fore and aft.

The height adjustment is at an angle. It still goes fore/aft, but goes up/down as well due to the incline.

Some of the passenger seats on the earlier 123`s didn`t have the elevation track, just the forward and back. the rear of the seat sits on some raised pedistals. the one on the R/R has a bolt going through it and into the rocker panel.

I have had to flag a guy down in the pnp`s so I could get a seat out, he would pull up on the handle and I would push from the rear. some of the tracks sure get gumed up with crap. french fries, hair, candy, gum, crayons, sodas, bobby pins, hair barets, money stuck in the track, you name it.
