Smile 400K milestone has been passed… (!)

Hi Everyone! I haven’t been here for quite a while, but now I have a reason to stop by:

My ’95 E300D surpassed the 400,000 mile mark a few weeks ago, and she’s still running strong.

FYI, this engine is completely original except for the fact that the cylinder head came off at around 310,000 miles due to a minor external coolant seep from the head gasket. (I had the machine shop do the valves at the same time since the head was already off.)

BTW, the injectors were checked for pop & pattern back then, and they were all good too. (And they are STILL in the engine.)

The only major items I’ve ever had to replace were the A/C compressor due to the rpm sensor going bad, and the radiator due to the dreaded upper neck crack. Other than that, it’s been simply a matter of replacing expected wear & tear items through the years, i.e., brakes, belts & hoses, shocks, water pump, etc.

All & all, an amazing piece of machinery…

Wonderful!

That is a great testimony to a great car. My first Mercedes was a '95 E320, not diesel, but still a great car in my opinion. On a slightly different topic I see that you have a number of E500s. I have thought about looking for one but have never had a chance to hear from an owner how they liked them. Could you give your opinion in a few sentences?

Congrats RunningToo!

I will roll over 380K on mine within a week or so. Knock wood, my head has never been off, original timing chain, original injectors, original radiator.

If your vac pump is original, CHANGE IT...

Rgds,
Chris W.
