Had to sell
Well, guys, I had to sell my 87 300D this week. We had some flooding out here on the Outer Banks of NC. It came on so fast that it caught me unaware & managed to get into the floorboard of the car.
It really bummed me out, but fortunately for me I have a friend that has coveted my car since I bought it. He has several MBs in his fleet & when I said something about getting rid of mine, he jumped on it with an offer I couldn't refuse. I told him about the flooding & the other problems the car had, but I still wanted it. So I sold it to him. At least it's in a MB family now. I found a Nissan Maxima I liked & bought that. I have mixed feelings about selling my Benz, but since D2 & RUG are $.50 a gallon apart out here, it even makes some sense economically to go with a gasser for now. I do a lot of driving to & from the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC (about 275 mi each way), so I think I'll come out ahead in fuel cost department (for now). Since Obama got re-elected, we will ALL see our fuel prices jump anyway. I will continue here on this forum. It's the best place on the internet for all things Benz. One day I will get another one, so I want to keep up. My best to all of you & many thanks to those on this forum for their time & efforts to edumacate us Newbies in the art of Benz ownership.

I talked to some yard owners that are being very careful about car buying because flood damaged cars are almost useless for parts. They are only buying "legitimate" wrecks.
You can find another MBZ. When someone starts talking things like diesel price discrepancy, they are obviously justifying a decision. There is no emotion or fun in that. It is time to hit craigslist etal.

Sorry to hear about the water damage to your 87, I guess it was salt water?. Hope your house and other property made it through the storm ok. What I have seen you guys got hammered pretty good.
I threw $20 worth in my PU today, $4.13 a gal., gave me 4.8 gallons. I could get a small gasser PU, but making payments and higher ins. and registration would cancel out any savings. and would probably get less MPG. I get 30 - 35mpg now. Charlie

Thanks. guys...
I rinsed under the car good (up on a lift) after I got it out of the water, so I'm hoping it helps some. Yes, it was salt water. Besides the flood problem, the car had developed some rust issues as well as some electrical problems that I just couldn't afford to fix right now. It is a good car, runs great, mechanically sound. I hated to part with it, but as the saying goes, you gotta do what you gotta do. No property damage, unless you count all the mud it brought into the yard. It's not an unusual occurance out here, but this time it came on so suddenly in the middle of the night that many of us didn't get to our cars in time. Since my truck is taller, it was OK. The folks north of us really got the worst of it...they have my sympathy & I understand what it means to be without power for weeks on end (Irene). Thank God I have a small generator that made things liveable back then. Anyway, I am not gone from this forum. It's just too chock full of outstanding information to leave. I will be a Benz owner again fairly soon, so it will be worth it to hang around.
