location of the body drains

Hi,

I have a 1983 300D, and I want to make sure that the drains are all clear, as a preventave maintenance. There look to be four of them on the lower outside frame, in very plain sight, they look like four little nozzles coming from the front and back on either side. However, I believe there should be more for the sunroof, windshield seals, AC, etc. If someone could tell me the approximate location of the various ones, and also what exactly Im looking for when searching for these drains, Id really appreciate it. Thanks very much

JMH

JMH,
Just joshing with you but my jack fits perfectly in those holes. The assorted drains are under the car: rubber tubes and mitral valve type.

Drain holes

JMH,
I believe the body style of your Benz is a 123. The four large holes in th rocker panels are for the jack. I don't know where the sunroof holes are but, I know the location of the others. See my other posts.
There are six or eight under the hood; below the hood hinges, the fuse box and battery, three or four in the trunk, two each rocker panel, (under neath) and one in each footwell. CLEAN them all! There is also one rubber drain hole cover in each front wheel well that get clogged with road dirt.
If they are clogged, you may get water in the footwells.
Again check my other posts and use the 'search'

Good luck, the bern

The sunroof drain holes are located in the roof gutter as it comes down to the rear of the back doors.I hope thats clear 'cos I cant think of a better way of describing their location. They are actually vents as opposed to pipes.
One drain most people miss is for the fuel cap recess.Lift flap and clean area with a rag, hole is obviously at bottom of recess.
As to the rest you should try a search on this forum as this subject comes up quite often, happy searching.Bear

Drains?

On my 126 the AC evaporator/heatercore pan drain runs into and empties out in the tranny hump.

Two more sunroof drains on the front door post, hinge side, about 6"below the windshield.Open the sunroof and pour water on all four corners(one at a time) of the inside pan, listen for the water draining out where Bear and I said.Good luck

Uh Oh.....

This is a familiar tale Carla, the water could be coming from several places.
The sunroof drains,maybe..
The front or rear window seals, look for cracking or brittleness.
The drains at the firewall, water drains off the windshield down into the area the hinge sits in(when the hood is down),goes down near the master cylinder to a drain in the wheelwell.
My windshield leaks at the base of the w-shield,if you look on the inside of the seal you may see evidence of water.Of course it's freezing out now,so kinda hard to check but there's the more common places to look.
My car is light green and yes I'm in Mission.I'm getting my windshield replaced and putting a new seal in hopefully will keep my car dry....Monsoon season will be back soon

Lightbulb clarification

JMH.

just to clarify.. my car has the 4 "nozzles" you described and they are the drains.. not for jacks. I can tell because mine have metal mesh just inside the holes. This prevents leaves and other debris from entering from the bottom of the car. I can even see the "nozzles" when walking up to the car, and they almost look as if something is not flush and needs attention... but they are the drains. hope this helps.
