Today's junk yard finds!
I visited the junk yard today and found a few W126es that I had not visited before.
I found a zebrano shifter knob in a 300SD. Decent condition set of W126 headlight bezels. Almost mint set of brake light housings from a 380SE. Delco glow plug. Tach amp - doubt it works. Washer pump. Nice driver's side lower window chrome and sweep. I am tempted to go back and get that minty looking bumper from that 380SE. Sometimes I see cars that are in better physical condition than my own and it peeves me! Who would junk these nice cars?

Congrats. Nothing like a good day at the PnP.
I suggest you keep the Delco glowplug as a spare in the toolkit. They aren't the first choice. As a general statement, one hefty repair estimate is often enough to park an old Mercedes at the yard. More specifically, if you mean the 380se, the 380 models prior to May '85 had a single row timing chain that requires more frequent changes than the dual chains used on the other V8s. Inattentive owners often had them snap, with resulting bent valves.

Too bad so many nice cars go to the yard. Lots of us wrenchers could get get them back in shape for a fraction of the cost. I sold lots of parts from a nice 1983 380SE that was in an unfortunate front end collision. I guess your explanation makes sense for why the yard owner sold the engine as fast as he did. It clearly had enough life left in it to propel the chassis into another car at a pretty high speed. I got lots of good parts from that car, though. Other members are probably sitting on the seats right now. LOL

It's half price through the 1st at my favorite yard, and it was jammed. Couldn't find a parking place to get in. I'll try again on Monday.
