W123 horn pad loose

My horn pad on the steering wheel came loose dangling by a spring or 2, and the horn sounds unless you hold it just so. PIA.

My indy rolled his eyes and said. 'You're screwed' when I mentioned it. Anyone have experience w/ the horn pad?

You can remove the soft part by lifting it over the edges of the metal and then see what's going on. It's probably just loose.

I removed one before and it was held on pretty tight. Just "peel" it off.

the screws may have wriggled loose. pull the rubber off and see what the metal ring is doing. after you get the rubber off, you'll see how it goes back together, and if it's damaged, lemme know... I've got plenty of em.

Mine has just come loose as well. It appears to be only held in by one or two of the 4 attachment bolts. I am not seeing any apparent way to reattach it without dismantling it further. Is the only way to pull the rubber off?

It will explain itself when you pull the horn pad off. 4 Shoulder bolts, each one w/ a spring, holding a metal frame back. Get the car interior good and warm so you don't have to worry about splitting the horn pad. Peel w/ two hands, from a corner I think. Cringing is natural.

Ok so this is what I have been hearing is the only way to get it done is to peel the rubber off from a couple other wrench turners.

Any Pictures from when you did it? It has not been super warm the past weeks, I might fire up the space heater in the garage to take care of that and make it a bit more malleable.

Ok I was finally able to get the rubber peeled back enough to reattach the hardware. Thanks for the 411
