Rothenbacher Engineering glow plugs

Ran into some of these for sale.

Anyone use them or know anything about them?

Seller says Rothenbacher Engineering is a Bosch
house and has made them for Bosch.

Love to hear the good ... the bad or even the ugly.

So I have seen looking on line.

Even that is very conflicting as his numbers on ebay are really good. The VW guys reeeeaaaally dont like him.

Id still like to get some feedback on the gp's if possible

Who Knows

I guess if you want to try cheap chinese glowplugs these could be as good as any out there. The chance that they are Bosch is pretty much zero. There is a possibility that these will last ok but not much probability of that. I don't like changing glowplugs, too much of a pain to get them out. If they break or strip threads you won't like it much. Real Bosch or Beru yes, I won't even use Autolite too crappy for me. Just my humble experience, Cheers Dan

I doubt if anyone on the Forum has tried them.

I don't think it is worth getting stuck someplace in the Cold to experiment with them.

The place I buy from has the Bosch 80006 for $8.03 each. If you bought 50 something dollars worth of stuff from them you get Free UPS Shipping. The ones I have recieved from them; last order 1.5 years ago were made in France.

I bought a USAF van with a 6.2L HMMWV diesel in it. It has good glow plugs, but I don't know what brand, am looking to get some spares, any idea who makes reputable mGPs for a HMMWV?

Most Bosch glow plugs are made at a factory in Alsace-Lorraine, I believe, right near the Franco-German border.

Bosch duraterm or ac/delco 60G is what most on the GM forums recommend... I've not driven em enough to have an opinion.

I did a quick check and he seems to be taking heat mostly for shoddy rebuilt injection pumps (also supplied by Rothenbacher, apparently). I saw reviews of other 'hard' parts, cam gears and glow plugs included, and they seem to be positive.

EDIT: Check that last comment. I later found this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=269676

Suggests the GPs are Taiwanese manufacture and may be identical to Beru (?).

Yes, Ive looked at what little is available on line about him and agree that most of the very limited info leaves him looking pretty sketchy.

That is why I asked if anyone had USED the Rothenbacher Engineering gp's and what their experience was with them.

Apparently no one has.

I haven't used them but never let my cheapness tempt me to do business with a person with "sketchy or negative" reputation - unless they are paying cash.

I saw those today too and put in my ebay wish list. I may try, as long as no risk they will shatter and leave pieces in the pre-chamber. Since I got a set of Craftsman ratcheting box wrenches, removing the glow plugs is much easier. They have small click increments that work between the injector tubes. I usually run a tap thru the holes (turning with my fingers) to clean carbon. You don't need the custom glow plug tap.

In my limited experience and memory on two 300D's w/ pencil type glow plugs, the bad ones I removed were Bosch and don't recall a failed Beck-Arnley that I installed. I bought a large set of the later off ebay years ago. Don't know how old the Bosch ones were. I think none last forever. My son called last night and said the 84 300D he just drove back to school has been requiring 20 sec to crank and the glow light stopped coming on. I recall that means that at least 2 glow plugs are bad, or could be the relay. I checked all with a multimeter before he left. He said it has been cold, but that is relative in San Diego.

That can be number of things: bad 80A strip fuse in relay, bad relay, connector loose at relay, no power going to connector pin for relay activation. If the #1 plug is bad, or the connection at the plug is bad, the system doesn't work, either.
