Water leak - driver side front
I've searched a bit for possible things to check to find this leak I seem to have and haven't found much for water in the driver side foot area.
We have had some rain the past few days and I noticed water under the sound proofing flooring of my '87 300TDT (drivers side). So far - I have run plastic line down the drain holes of the sunroof but it hasn't seemed to resolve anything. Ran the line until it wouldn't go any further. Not sure where the outlet is. The engine area is pretty clean - no leaves, etc. I don't see any clogged drain holes near the firewall area. Where else should I check? Thanks, -John |

Here's a list of potential issues posted elsewhere by user Bama1 (not sure how to link post directly)
Here is a list of candidates to inspect in order of likelyhood: 1) Open window (Close the window) 2) Rear windshield seal (Remove and Replace (R & R) OEM seal) 3) Front windshield seal (R & R) 4) Sunroof drains (Use Heavy duty weed-eater string to chase the drains) 5) Bonnet(Hood) Hinge drain channels (ditto #4) 6) Firewall breach under Battery Tray (patch holes, paint) 7) Door weatherseal (R & R) 8) Antenna mount (R & R) 9) Hole in floorpan (eliminate H2O source, patch holes, paint) 10) Tail-light Seals?? (I suppose it is possible with repaired bodies. Frankly, I've never experienced a tail-light leak) Not ion the list above is the rain gutter in front of the windshield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbpqoZMpvAc I've also seen firewall gaskets and airconditioning mentioned. I'm having the same issue and intend to chase this list if it will *ever* stop raining. Last edited by Zeppelin_Noir; 01-16-2013 at 10:18 AM. |

Great list - thanks. Same here - going to hit it when it stops raining.

Another possibility: holes in wheel wells.

I've got the same problem on both sides. I did have a good sized hole under my battery tray, I but out all of the rust and patched it up with fiber glass... I'm not to sure about this keeping the elements out so as soon as I can I'm going to take it in to have some sheet metal welded in. I closed up all of the holes in the firewall plus I Dynomatted the interior side of the firewall so I think my leaks are coming from a leaky windshield seal. Hope you find yours.

Just curious how this turned out.
After a windshield gasket fix I am now convinceded that my leak is the hinge hood pocket.. checked today and yup, water is dripping in over the hood release. Sigh. Will start prepping for a sunny day to pull the hood. Guess I'll POR15 it. |

Ok - so we had some rain yesterday and I took the chance to sit in the car with the rugs and sound material off the front passenger foot area to watch for water.
After drying everything off and then watching for new water - it appears I have water coming in via the wiring harness at the base of the passenger door. I'm thinking I have a sunroof drain issue... I've read the sunroof drain is located in this area. Thoughts? -John |

Mine had holes in both of the Tunnels that the Hood Hinge Spring retracts into.

Sunroof drains should exit in the gap between the front door and the front fender. Open the front door, run some string trimmer line, and it should appear coming out there.
I fixed a huge leak into LR footwell and driver's footwell by plugging a hole in the left rear wheel well, there is a body plug there which had come loose due to corrosion. Search my name and leak and you will find a pic. Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300, 387K

ditto on the sunroof drains. in mine i got the filament into the drain, no problem, but i did not discover that the tube was rusted away until i removed the headliner. pouring a little water directly into the drain should reveal this case if some comes down through the headliner.

I'm got a similar leak and it does my head in. It's only a relatively small amount of water coming in after heavy rain, but still annoying (though being a RHD car, it's on the passenger side). Pretty sure it isn't coming from the rear as it dribbles down from by the hood release when the car has been sitting overnight etc.
I've chased my sunroof drains with a bike brake cable and it exits where it should, and did the water test pouring directly into the drain holes (sunroof, engine bay and air vents etc) and can't seem to replicate it. Mine has had a new wing (fender) on that side, and windscreen, both fitted before I bought it, so I'm wondering if something wasn't put back properly during these works.
