I'm useing my G as a comparison for this one. The early G's were under the influence of the commercial division and thus shared a lot of the same components. I know for a fact that the combination switch on my 82 was from the TN series whereas a year or two later production was transferred over to the passenger car division which then started taking components out of the W123 line.

Early W460

Later W460 (Note the W123 switches)

All I've ever seen on the TN's is the com switch like the ones in the vehicles you pictures. I've never seen one like the single part you have pictured.

Here are some shots of the dashboard. The control stalk doesn't have any electronics. It just switches the turn signals and actuates the high beams.

I found a service record for an oil change from November 1979 and the van had 6890km at that point. I guess that means that it has to be a '77, '78, or '79. The low mileage probably means that '79 is more likely.

I have pictures of a sticker on the engine that has quite a few numbers that I can't interpret. If it might help in nailing things down more precisely, I'll post it.

Also, if anyone's interested in photos of other parts of the van, just let me know and I'll snap some.

Thanks for all the help and enthusiasm!

Yep, steering wheel, climate control, accelerator pedal and switches are the same.

Where is your combination switch? (You have to be able to signal some way....)

The lever to the left of the steering column (picture #4), controls the turn signals and the high beams.

Really? Funny looking little thing...... (It looks more like a column shifter!) What about windshield wipers? Presumably one of the dash switches?

(Forgive me i've never seen one of these vans up close before )

Yes, the dash switches control the heater fan, wipers, and headlights.

Neat.

Can you post a few pictures of the interior?
What is the history of the van?
What have you done to it since it was purchased 3 years ago?

Wow, this isn't a "just" 207 D. This is a "Westfalia" - the S-class in the camper class of that time!!!
Write the FIN (VIN), I'll try to clarify the date of production.

Yep, it's the James Cook edition

Unfortunately, the interior and camper amenities are not in great condition and need some work. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

The Chassis Number is 60137718090985. This is the best I've been able to do at decoding it so far: VIN Decoder MERCEDES-BENZ 207 D/208 D. The production year isn't encoded, so I think the only way to come up with it would be to compare the serial number to other vans of the same vintage.

I've attached pictures of the engine sticker too, in case any of the numbers on it are useful.

Very nice. I've had both a 307d Class A and a 409d van conversion. I sold my 409d because it didn't have enough room for 3 of us and our gear. What did that set you back? I've seen them go for up to around $15k on Ebay. How many miles on it?
