How do I repair this trim?

Here it is -- how should I re-attach the chromed trim to the panel?

uggh, thats a tough one.

My first attempt would be to leverage the fact that the vinyl covering has some softness to it. It will compress a bit.

So because of this, take clothes pins or some other form of similar compression, and squash the leading edge for a few days. Quickly remove the clamps and force it on hard.

If that doesnt work, you may need to use heat (to soften it up) and/or do some mechanical work on the metal part. Get a good pair of smooth jaw pliers if youre going to try to open it up and then compress it back (carefully).

Id also use a bit of soapy water when trying to force it in, lube will help.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Oops, I should have specified that the trim is plastic, not metal...

The silver item hanging off is plastic???!? Not on my car. If it is plastic, then Id just get a heat gun, warm everything up, and work it on.

They are metal on my cars... SO Id check again. Obviously the blue stuff is vinyl.

Okay, you win. It's metal... but the blue stuff is leather -- these cars didn't come with vinyl! Come on, dude! It's a Mercedes-Benz!

MBTex = imitation leather

I'm not saying you have MB Tex, I can't tell from the pics, but there are lots of them out there without leather. Although, nothing wrong with MBTex . . . it's much more durable than leather.

Oh, it's MB-Tex. I'm just being silly (it seems like every Mercedes-Benz listed for sale in my area has "leather" ).

leather seats aren't all that uncommon (I've had two 123s with leather now), but door cards, seat backs and pillar trim are all synthetic materials.

Okay, so I squeezed the trim a bit to make it a tighter fit, and now it's on perfectly!

Thank you, JHZR2!
