I bought an 85 300sd with similiar damage for $500. ,after $300 worth of parts I had a running and driving 300sd with very nice interior and working a/c .Ive seen that yr and model at the yards before ,its a very rebuidable car but your first inspection needs to be done to help an interested party buy from you .For starters if you were to take the hood off and check the hinges to see if the wreck damaged the hinge mechanics ,the rest would be installing a radiator for just a short start up for buyers to witness the motor is clear of major damage,if these 2 things can be verified your chances of getting anything close too $2000 is possible.

I sure appreciate all the replies. I'm going to take the money and weep.

I just don't have the time to resolve the uncertainty under the hood, or a place to keep it while I chipped away at the work.

I had my '84 wagon totaled in 2010. Sheesh, I can't believe it's been that long now...

Anyhow, I fought hard on Snake Farm and got a fair deal on the car (personal injury was a b!tch, though). I got them far below their salvage value and above their value on the total. Call salvage yards to ask for what they'd buy it for. Usually $200-$500 dollars. That should be all that you have to pay the insurance to keep the car.

I made up my salvage costs just selling the transmission to a forum member who drove down from Dallas.
