Do a search on this site, someone posed the same questionin the past year or so.

Caswell and Eastwood supposedly make coating kits. The gold comes from two sources, gold cadimum plating ( that is no longer used ) or gold tinted clear coat ( not sure if your car would have this. )

on younger cars, the "gold" is a coating put on to prevent rust and keep the motor clean. it's called cosmoline, and it's a wax like product applied at the factory.

im sure some of you will get a laugh at this... i used sand paper on some of the coated metals Yes, i know that was sooo stupid. I would like to re- coat or plate these parts and the others that are wearing off or looking dull. I hope it will not cost too much to do this. Is there any thing i can get at the hardware store that will give me similar results? thank you for the helpful replies

you could get them chromed or something, but i would probably just try to do a good job painting them with a paint resistant to high temperatures. worst case, get another set of hard lines from the junkyard.

Yellow zinc

I get my local electroplaters to yellow zinc most things. Do an image search on 'yellow zinc plating'.

I believe cadmium plating has not been used for quite some time for environmental reasons.

In Trade School We were told that Diesel Fuel will eat up the Zinc plating that used to be used inside of Gasser Fuel Tanks. And, We were cautioned about using Gasser Fuel Tanks as replacements or if converting a Gasser to Diesel.

Does anyone know if the same thing happen with parts plated withe Zinc Chromate?

The next to the real deal (not Cadmium) is trivalent yellow- EPI's E-Brite Ultra Chlor AP and E-PASSivate Yellow Red processes (the E-PASSivate Yellow Red is a 2 component process). Yellow Zinc is just zinc with yellow dye.

Charlie beat me to it

I'll try to remember to grab a pic of my engine tonight and y'all can see how they've aged. They still look good to me.
