Replaced Nailing Monarks with Original Bosch - welcome back!
OK, here's the story. At around 220,000 miles I felt I needed to "do something" in regards to the injectors. I read that Bosch are now made in India so I decided to purchase a new set of Monark injectors. From the beginning, they nailed upon start up and that problem never went away. Fast forward to now; I managed to source a very nice set of used original German made Bosch injectors. I installed them this evening and bled the fuel system. The car started right up and better yet NO NAILING!!! The engine sounds like a Mercedes diesel should.
In addition to the nailing problem, I noticed the pintels on the Monarks looked black and sooty. I shined my work light into the injection chambers and each chamber looks black and sooty. I am going to do a Lubro Moly diesel purge and also make sure the Injection pump timing and ALDA settings are correct before making my final judgement. But, for right now, the car sounds a LOT HAPPIER!!
FYI, I spoke in length on the telephone with one of the mainstays of this forum and he told me he is hearing nothing but complaints about Monarks. He said he is recommending that people stick with Bosch.
