Transmission fluid into crankcase

Hey guys,
Did a search and couldn't find anything on this,

My 300sd is using a lot of tranny fluid and I can't find a leak any where under the car.

I am gaining oil level in the crankcase.

Could the modulater valve diaphragm be causing this?

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Tom

It could. Pull off the vacuum line and see if it's full of fluid.

Yes.

All vacuum air is dumped in the crankcase.
If the transmission modulator diaphragm fails, this is a rather common issue.

I'd think the good news here is that the trans fluid in the crankcase wouldn't be nearly as harmful to the engine as say coolant or some other chemical. Some even add it to engine oil deliberately to flush things out (then change the oil immediately after).

It's a long journey from the transmission back to the vacuum pump through at least one orfice. How much can make that journey?
