The C02 extinguisher would have been a lot cleaner. I will look into one.

I have the front seat mounted fire extinguisher bracket from when I got the Euro seats. I wonder if I could reinstall it and expect my small fire extinguisher to fit. Great point about not being able to open the trunk.

If you use a power extinguisher, be sure to vac up right away as the powder is corrosive especially as it absorbs moisture.

The best thing for an alcohol fire is water but don't try this with oil / other petro fuels as it will just spread the fire around.

Although it will be hard to remember during the crisis, do not lift the hood to extinguish flames. Opening the hood just feeds any fire with a huge dose of fresh oxygen. If you can get the extinguisher nozzle into the grill, which you could easily learn to do when your stuff's not on fire, then you stand a dramatically better chance of reducing damage. If you must, just pop the hood and lift it only a little bit, then blast away with your extinguisher. You can also shoot up from under the front end.

The problem is the fire in this case will be between the two firewalls, below the brake booster. Opening the hood is the only way to get the extinguisher to that area

X2 --- and if the firemen would just understand that DIESEL does NOT explode......they could have saved me the trouble of replacing the front fender, hood, and windshield. Those guys are AXE happy.

... heck, in a vehicle GASOLINE does not explode...

My father's 90 corvette ZR1 caught fire, and burned to the ground... EVERYTHING gone on a fiberglass car... except the fuel tank, and the engine/trans/rear diff... oh, and a steel ring where the steering wheel used to be... odd.
HOWEVER!!!

the front and rear bumper shocks CERTAINLY DO EXPLODE!!! 4 rockets them were...

Never use the blower on low speed if your W126 is composting leaves. I believe it's in the FSM somewhere.

Hey Whiskeydan --- I'm guessing you mean the AUX fan out front. So, how do we make it run on HIGH all the time? Bridge connect the temperature sensor on the front of the engine?

The CCU blower resistor under the fuse box has no current passed thru it with blower on high (or off). Nothing to do with the aux fan.

Early w126 aux fans are either on/off. No low speed but, if you want it to run all the jumper the temp sender. Although, there's no benefit is everything is in working order.

no. he's talking about the cabin blower. the leaves under the brake booster on the early 126 cars crowd around the resistor pack for the cabin blower, the lower the speed it's turning, the hotter the resistor pack gets. run the car on high speed fan only, and the resistor gets zero heat.
so either do not run the blower, or only run it in high mode.

You are not going to believe this ---- I have thought for YEARS that the resistor pack down there was for the AUX Fan low speed.

So, someone explain to me the low speed/high speed on the AUX fan --- or do I have that all mixed up, too.

I can't speak for other models or years but my gen 1 W126 has never ran the Aux fan at any other speed than max. It is either on or off. I believe the relay is inside the fuse box.

I always keep my CCU on Auto, so the resistor would be hot in most cases. I plan to keep that area clean and be aware of the potential danger. I will also stay prepared for another leaf event.
