One of the Names is either the 2/3way Valve or the 3/2way valve.
If the levers are worn out some places you can buy just the Levers.

From what I have read the only purpose of the Valves (at least on My year and model has 2 of them) are to control the EGR Valve.
The only effect they have on the Transmission is when they become a source of a vacuum leak.

Best to remove that, clean out your vaccum lines coming from the egr, maybe another forum member lives close to you and can help you with that or some detailed pictures can help along, really its not needed and they are not cheap to replace either so why go that way.

the nipple on the 3/2 valve is broken...so the vacuum line will not go on..im going to order a new one. Wonder is a local part store would have these?
are the curvy vacuum lines there still available?

Local parts store would not likely have them. Most parts car would have them. You didn't answer what car it is for. My 84SD is doing fine without the EGR and related plumbing. PO must have removed it.

It is just the normal Vacuum Hose that you purchase by the foot at the Auto Parts store. It is likely 1/8" inside diameter but get the same thick walled Hose so it won't kink when you bend it.

I find that odd as I had accidently disconnected the Vacuum line from My Transmission Modulator while doing some other work on the Car.
The Car had almost the same shifts going forward and revers but had jarring harsh shifts during down shifts.

The more common cause of a Mercedes of your Year with an Automatic Transmission not going forward is a broken B2 Piston or B2 Band. However, reverse is supposed to work.

I have come across conflicting information as to whether the 3/2 valves are needed. Are there certain years that need this part for proper trans performance?

I have removed the entire assembly (84 300d) and noticed no difference.

I have been wondering about this also.

What I am thinking is if you have no EGR and you have the 3/2 Valve it must be there for some other reason.

If the little valves are leaking or the Tubing going to them are leaking it could cause a transmission issue.

I've heard the vacuum plumbing varied with the year or model. I had an '82 automatic 240D and when I was working on the alternator, I accidentally switched the two EGR vacuum lines at the solenoid-valve on the right inner-fender. The tranny wouldn't upshift until I switched the lines back.
Now, I have the same model with a stick-shift, so I guess I could toss all the EGR plumbing without a care (Unless some zealous EPA official is reading this!)

Happy Motoring, Mark
