190 2.5/16 5 speed in 95 300d

Greetings all,

will a Getrag 5spd from a 190 2.5/16 fit behind a w124 om606 n/a? Also will it be able to handle the torque of the motor stock - and or turboed (with pump turned up)? Just enough power to make passing easier and hills more manageable

I have a 5 speed from a '87 190E 2.3 8v behind my stock OM606. The clutch is smaller (8.5") than the one from a 2.3 16v (9" I think). The 8.5" clutch is just big enough for the stock 606, any smaller and it would probably be an issue. The transmission itself should hold up to quite a bit more power than a stock 606 makes.

The shorter gearing of the non-overdrive trans should mean you won't have to do a diff swap, although I wouldn't do one with an overdrive trans either.

Not sure if you really meant 2.5 16, but if it's an '89 or newer I believe it has the dual mass flywheel, not sure if that will work on the 606....

Red face

No, I did not mean 2.5/16. That was just my dreams surfacing - the motor it was on was a 2.5. thanks for the info!

From what I can gather it's a straight forward swap. Would there be any reason to worry if the car approached 250 horse? Or is it the torque I should be more worried about?
